BAKU (News.az)—The American and Russian co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Robert Bradtke and Yuriy Merzlyakov, arrived in Azerbaijan Tuesday morning, where they were expected to meet with officials for talks on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
French co-chair Bernard Fassier was not among their delegation. The two mediators were set to meet with Azeri President Ilham Aliev
“I am very happy to back in Baku,” Merzlyakov said, upon arriving in the Azeri capital Baku. “I have come to meet with President Aliyev and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mammadyarov.
“As President Aliyev said, we are really at a decisive stage in Nagorno-Karabakh peace process. And we need to reestablish the momentum, the momentum which was lost during last couple of months of this year,” he told reporters.
Bradtke, for his part, said he would be “reassuring” Aliyev in Washington’s “interest in relations with Azerbaijan, not only bilateral relations, but also in the context of Nagorno-Karabakh.”
“The US is ready to do what we can make progress in the peace process,” he added, noting that he would hold another press conference following meetings with Aliyev and Mammadyarov.
