YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–On September 28–His Holiness Karekin II–Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenia’s–continued his pontifical visit to the Diocese of Artsakh.
The first meeting of His Holiness in Stepanakert was with the students and the teaching staff of the State University of Artsakh.
Welcoming His Holiness–Karlen Adamian–the Rector of the University–mentioned that the visit of the Armenian Pontiff gave a new impetus to the people of Artsakh–who have been experiencing spiritual awakening for the last decade. Upon the decision of the Scientific Council made the previous day–His Holiness was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of the State University of Artsakh and was given a commemorative medal dedicated to the 30th Anniversary of the University.
His Holiness expressed his gratitude for the award–assuming it as a new task and obligation. Then–His Holiness gave his fatherly blessing to the students exhorting them to study with the same heroic spirit–as the courageous Artsakh struggles. With joy–His Holiness noted that he witnessed a strong spirit–self-controlled and deserving posture–which surely is the result of Artsakh people’s inner spiritual breeding. "We came to encourage you and We return encouraged," said His Holiness.
At the end of the meeting His Holiness answered many questions about various problems.
The next meeting of His Holiness was with the faithful flock of Stepanakert. The Church of Stepanakert has been in decline since the 30s. It is the 9th year that the faithful of the city–under the leadership of the Diocesan Primate–satisfy their spiritual needs at the Church of the Holy Godmother–which is situated inside the building of the Theater.
Upon the request of the obscure Soldiers Relatives Union–His Holiness paid a visit to the Union–and became acquainted with the Union’s problems–assuring that in case of possibility he will try to help and to support them.
On the same day–His Holiness had a meeting with Naira Melkoumian–the Foreign Minister of Nagorno-Karabakh. In the afternoon–His Holiness met with Seyran Ohanian–the Defense Minister of Nagorno-Karabakh–and the Ministry staff.
His Holiness also paid a visits to the museum of Artsakh and the Sosse kindergarten. Most importantly–he paid a visit to the unit named after the national hero – Vazken Sarkissian–and placed a floral wreath at the monument dedicated to the hero.
