YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A concert featuring the works of Aram Khachatourian will be held on May 15 in Yaroslav to celebrate his 95th birthday.
Moscovite music expert Ksenia Chebotareva said if the concert is sponsored by Yaroslav Governor Anatoly Lisitsin then Armenian officials will be invited. Otherwise–financial difficulties will prevent an Armenian delegation from being invited.
A similar concert is scheduled to be held at the Big Philharmonic Hall in St. Petersburg on May 27–upon the initiative of a local philharmonic society and the Ministry of Culture of Armenia. The Academic Symphonic Orchestra of St. Petersburg will perform under the directorship of Tigran Sargsian–a fourth-year student at the local conservatory–a graduate from the Yerevan Conservatory. Professor Edward Tadevosian of Armenia has also been invited to perform at the concert.
Chebotareva remembered the festival held in Moscow five years ago to mark Aram Khachatourian’s 90th birthday anniversary–voicing regret that no jubilee celebrations are scheduled in the capital this year because of financial problems. Currently–negotiations are being held with the Bolshoi Theater to stage "Spartacus" on June 6–Khachatourian’s birthday.
