YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Timothy Jones invited Speaker of the Armenian Parliament on behalf of the House of Lords and the House of Commons to make an official visit to London at the end of January.
The Public Relations Department of the Parliament quoted Armen Khachatrian as expressing confidence in the fact that both countries and peoples are interested in deepening the Armenian-British relations and the upcoming meeting will help strengthen Interparliamentary relations and specify the mechanisms of economic cooperation. Speaker Armen Khachatrian expressed optimism that the delegation’s official visit will result in serious achievemen’s and the presence of the British economy in Armenia will become more apparent.
Jones also emphasized the importance of deepening interparliamentary relations also stressing the importance of the speaker’s official visit. He noticed that–Great Britain has seemingly close economic relations with Azerbaijan–in reality the British government seeks to create possibilities for peace and development in the South Caucasus as well as for establishing deeper political and economic relations with Armenia.
The Georgian Parliament Speaker Nino Burjanadze’s official visit to Armenia interested the Ambassador.
The Armenian Parliament Speaker said that certain measures for cooperation were made during her visit–in particular–in the aspect of operation of the railroad and roads–creating opportunities for a peaceful settlement of the Abkhazian conflict–deepening economic cooperation and establishing mutually advantageous relations with neighbors.
Ambassador Jones emphasized that his country is interested in the development of the region and will do its utmost to promote Armenia’s progress.
