YEREVAN (Combined Sources)–President Kocharian will depart for Geneva on Tuesday for The World Summit on Information Society (WSIS)–along with Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian–and Armenia’s transport and communication minister Antranig Manukian. Armenia’s ambassador to Switzerland Zohrab Mnatsakanian–will accompany the delegation.
Kocharian will participate in the official opening of the WSIS summit that will address a broad range of themes on Information Society and adopt a Declaration of Principles and Plan of Action–and is scheduled to speak at the plenary session. The president will also be meeting with Lebanese president Emil Lahoud–and Estonian president Arnold Rtel.
President Kocharian will take part in the WSIS awards ceremony–where Armenia’s Cosmic Ray Division (CRD) will be awarded for developing one of the tope five WSIS products in the category of e-science. Its web site DVIN (Data Visualization Interactive Network for Aragats Space Environmental Center) for ASEC was selected out of 800 projects from 136 countries nominated for this competition. Announced last week–the winners were selected in mid-October by a panel of experts from 36 countries.
The president is scheduled to meet with the leadership of Swiss Armenian organizations–as well as businessmen–before returning to Armenia on December 12.
