YEREVAN (Armenpress)–An International Monetary Fund delegation–led by deputy director of IMF European Department Thomas Wolf–arrived in Armenia to hold talks with the Armenian government on the country’s economic situation. The delegation was received by president Robert Kocharian Friday.
The head of the delegation presented their observations of the current economic trends and microeconomic indexes.
Sharing Wolf’s concerns over the economic indexes–president Kocharian noted they were the outcome of the created inner-political situation. In Kocharian’s words–the situation has now changed and is fully controlled.
President Kocharian has assured the IMF officials that in a few months there will be positive shifts and by this autumn there will be quite different indexes.
He also said that a number of projects targeting the re-operating of several enterprises were underway. It is expected that they will have a serious influence over the Gross National Product.
Placing the struggle against corruption as a priority–both sides emphasized the importance of forming relevant legislation. President Kocharian said that serious steps were being taken in that direction–particularly–the draft laws on public servants income declaration and on public servants.
Underlining the importance of cooperation with international lending organizations–Kocharian expressed hope that the negotiations with the Armenian government would yield mutually beneficial agreemen’s.
