YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Armenia’s trade and industry minister left on Tuesday for Tehran to finalize the economic cooperation agreemen’s–set for President Robert Kocharian’s visit to Iran–next month.
In the meantime Armenian Energy Minister Karen Galustian–the co-chairman of Armenian-Iranian economic cooperation inter-governmental cooperation said on Tuesday that Robert Kocharian will also sign a final agreement on the construction of a strategically important pipeline to transport Iranian gas to Armenia.
Work on the 140 kilometer pipeline was initially expected to start at the beginning of this year but is still being held up by uncertainty over sources of funding and differences over the price of Iranian gas.
Karen Galustain–who was speaking at a specialized Iranian energy seminar-exhibition in Yerevan on Tuesday–said that the principle terms of the $120 million project were finalized.
Galustain also said that an agreement on the usage of hydro-energy potential from the Arax River will also be signed. Other documen’s–set to be signed encompass customs–visa issuance clarification–environment–agriculture–scientific cooperation–historical and cultural areas
