YEREVAN (Armenpress)–On an official visit to Russia–Armenian Prime Minister Robert Kocharian met with Russian Prime Minister Victor Chernomyrdin–Wednesday.
According to government press sources–among issues addressed during the hour-long meeting were Armenian-Russian relations and Ter-Petrosyan’s upcoming official visit to Russia when a major agreement will be signed among other documen’s. The officials also discussed the advancement of political–economic and cultural cooperation.
Among those present at the meeting were Russian Deputy Prime Minster Valerie Serov–Deputy Foreign Minister Boris Pastoukhov–Presidential Aide Vladimir Chmiyevski–Chief of Staff of the Ter-Petrosyan Administration Shahen Karamanoukian–and Armenian Ambassador to Russia Gagig Shahbazian.
Kocharian’s meeting with Serov mainly revolved around the economy. Serov commented that there is an obvious movement in Russian-Armenian economic relations. He noted that the rise of commercial Russian entities in Armenia’signify the strengthening of Russian-Armenian trade relations. They also discussed future plans for collaboration in the areas of transport and energy.
Meeting with Armenian Embassy officials that same day–Kocharian explained Armenia’s expectations from the newly-appointed Ambassador.
He stressed that Russian-Armenian economic relations should be prioritized by the Embassy. Kocharian also mentioned that they should work more closely with Armenian businessmen.
