YEREVAN (Yerkir)–Armenia’s President Robert Kocharian held a meeting on June 7 with members of a Homenetmen delegation in Armenia for the organization’s eighth General Convention. The Homenetmen general convention was held in Armenia for the first time when eighty five delegates from fifteen countries gathered in Dzaghgadzor. The members of the delegation briefed the President on Homenetmen’s activities–noting that 60,000 members both in Armenia and abroad belong to the organization. They outlined decisions of the 8th convention to expand the scout movement in Armenia–further develop sports activities in the Diaspora–and generally support future initiatives in the homeland. The delegation thanked the President for his continued support of Homenetmen activities in Armenia.
The President congratulated the delegates on the 85th anniversary of the founding of Homenetmen and welcomed the initiative hold the organization’s general convention in Armenia.
Stressing the importance of Diaspora activities–President Kocharian noted that Homenetmen–as a Pan-Armenian youth organization–plays a significant role in developing and strengthening Armenia-Diaspora relations.
The delegates spoke of the improvemen’s and positive changes they witness with each visit to Armenia.
On the request of the delegation–the President commented on the May 25th referendum on constitutional amendmen’s and the concurrent parliamentary elections in Armenia.
