YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–On September 1–an Armenian delegation led by President Robert Kocharian arrived in Kazakhstan on an official visit. Following the formal ceremony at the Astana Airport–the Armenian delegation headed for the Okan Intercontinental-Astana hotel.
Later that day the Armenian president participated in the arrangemen’s organized on the occasion of the Day of Knowledge.
On September 2 the two countries’ presidents held a private meeting followed by Armenian-Kazakh negotiations. A number of intergovernmental documen’s were to be signed as a result of the negotiations aimed at the development of Armenian-Kazakh economic relations.
Nazarbayev signed a treaty of friendship and cooperation on Thursday with Kocharian. The agreement is intended to boost the traditionally friendly ties shared between the two countries.
Interfax news agency said that in addition to the treaty–the two presidents also agreed to establish a joint economic and trade commission.
At the press conference–the two presidents spoke with deep appreciation for the traditional ties of friendship and mutual trust shared between them.
Nazarbayev said his country is hopeful that Armenia will resolve the issues relevant to the Nagorno-Karabakh area–which is in Azerbaijan and whose population is mainly ethnic Armenia’s.
The Armenian president arrived in Kazakhstan Wednesday for a two-day visit. During his stay–the two countries also signed agreemen’s on trade–aviation and customs.
