BUENOS AIRES (Armenpress)–Armenian President Robert Kocharian–who is paying official visits to Argentina–Uruguay and Brazil–met with members of the local Armenian community on May 5 in the capital city Buenos Aires.
Andranik Ernekian–who was greeting the president on behalf of the community–said the visit by Kocharian to Argentina may become a turning point in developing relations between Armenia and the Armenian community in Argentina–one of the biggest in Diaspora.
Eurnekian was quoted as saying that he realizes the importance of the past for the Armenian people–but says–"We should think about Armenia and its future."
According to Eurnekian–the world has undergone major changes over the past decades–which began at the end of 1947 and were formed in the light of the new idea of globalization and Armenia must get adapted and integrate into this new world. The businessman from Argentina expressed satisfaction with the fact that the Armenian president accepts the changes occurring in the world and displays enough wisdom to contribute to the integration of his country through political and legal reforms.
Eurnekian said that the Diaspora is able and must offer its means and its experience of adapting to the new world for the implementation of these ideas.
"Ten of the signed and now operational documen’s and bilateral agreemen’s between Argentina and Armenia concern the trade and economic–agricultural–scientific and technical–nuclear–as well as cultural–scientific and health spheres. We need to create mechanisms connecting Armenia with the Diaspora for the activation of the process of the implementation of these agreemen’s and for making them as practical as possible," Eurnekian said–adding that these issues will be discussed during the May 28-29 Second Armenia-Diaspora Forum in Yerevan.
