YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Armenian Prime Minister Robert Kocharian received US Congressman Frank Pallone (D-NJ)–on Tuesday. The mission of the Congressman’s visit is to get acquainted with the economic situation in Armenia–to discuss the process of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resolution–as well as to discuss the possibilities for US support to Armenia’s economic development.
Greeting the Congressman–Kocharian praised his efforts toward the resolution of the Karabakh conflict and towards the establishment of peace.
Speaking on the economic policy of the government–the Armenian Prime Minister attached great importance to the creation of favorable conditions for foreign investmen’s. The successful continuation of the economic reforms–establishment of structures guaranteeing business protection–as well as legal judicial reforms are priorities for the government–said Kocharian.
At the request of the Congressman–the prime minister spoke on the Karabakh conflict resolution process and expressed his opinion on the possible developmen’s of the process. Stressing the necessity of the continuation of the negotiations within the framework of OSCE Minsk Group–Kocharian pointed out the need for direct talks between Azerbaijan and Nagorno-Karabakh.
According to him–direct talks will contribute not only to the enforcement of the cease-fire but also to the re-establishment of mutual trust between the two nations.
Present at the meeting were US Ambassador to Armenia Peter Tomsen and other officials.
