LOS ANGELES –Los Angeles City Councilmember Paul Krekorian on Monday welcomed Anna Hakobyan, spouse of Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, to Los Angeles during her official tour to the United States.
The event celebrated of the 25th anniversary of the Consulate of Armenia in Los Angeles and highlighted the significance of the people’s movement in Armenia that inspired the Velvet Revolution.
“The Armenian community of Los Angeles is one of the most vibrant, most productive, and most engaged communities of the diaspora in the world,” said Councilmember Paul Krekorian, the first Armenian American to be elected to the Los Angeles City Council.
“I was proud to welcome Mrs. Hakobyan on behalf of the City of Los Angeles and showcase the history and unity of our community here as we celebrated the Consulate for its vital partnership, and I was incredibly honored to recognize her inspiring role in the extraordinary and peaceful democratic movement that has fundamentally reshaped the Republic of Armenia,” continued Krekorian.
Hakobyan was also joined by Ambassador Armen Baibourtian, Consul General of Armenia in Los Angeles and Vahagn Melikian, the Secretary General of the Foreign Ministry of Armenia. During her five-city visit to the United States, Hakobyan has met with dignitaries, members of Congress, officials, organizations and community members while presenting the Republic of Armenia.
L.A. Citycouncilmembers Paul Kortez and Mitch O’Farrell, as well as City Attorney Mike Feuer also attended the event.
