YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The "Kurdistan" committee of Armenia–over 20 Kurdish men and women–called a hunger-strike on the morning of June 20. The hunger-strike participants demand that the Turkish government improve the conditions of the KLP Leader–Abdullah Ocalan–whose health has gotten worse. The Kurds demand that an independent international medical commission be formed to examine their leader’s health. The deman’s were sent to some of the largest international organizations–including the UN. The representative of the Liberation Front of Kurdistan’s Women Alifa Runai stated that Turkey has no right to "knock at the door of Europe"–as it does not respect the rights of national minorities and has not yet become a democratic country respecting human rights.
The action participants gave assurances that hunger-strikes and actions of protest will be organized until their deman’s are met.
