YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"Long live the centuries-old friendship between the Armenian and Kurdish peoples,"Turkey is fascist,"Freedom to Ocalan," such were the slogans under which Armenian Kurds gathered again in Yerevan’s Liberty Square on June 4. The crowed staged a march through Yerevan streets to the UN Office in Armenia in front of which they held a brief rally. There were many children among the demonstrators and they upheld the demand of their elders that PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan be freed.
The speakers at the rally claimed the current trial of Ocalan to be the trial of the century. They maintained that the "Turkish state and its supports in the West will not be able to suppress the national-liberation struggle of 40-million Kurdish people–which has even intensified since the arrest of Ocalan."
