LOS ANGELES—In a timely piece in Wednesday’s Los Angeles Times, columnist Tim Rutten explores what he calls President Obama’s “lack of moral clarity” on the Armenian Genocide issue, arguing that Obama has put aside “clarity in an effort to maintain the support of Armenian Americans while not offending Turkey.”
Rutten discusses last week’s events at the State Capitol and Congress marking the 96th anniversary of the Genocide and points out that participants at both events did not hear a message from Obama, or Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, “acknowledging the historical reality of the genocide.”
“That’s because,” Rutten writes “this administration, like its predecessors, is straddling a fine line — one that, more than ever, appears to be a distinction without a difference.”
“It’s an act of expediency that bites with particular sharpness because candidate Obama declared that “America deserves a leader who speaks truthfully about the Armenian genocide.” This raises the question of why President Obama declines to do so and why this administration opposes the resolution,” writes Rutten.
The author also points out that Obama’s current posturing “is not prudence but cowardice.

Indeed, “distinction without a difference” and all under the farcical guise of “change”.
As far as I’m concerned, Obamby can talk about “change” until he’s blue in the face (pun intended), but my face still gets RED with anger when I think about his and Ms. Powers’ betrayal of our community.
Our community isn’t going to be the low lying fruit for you politicians to pick at any longer. We are not going to ask ‘how high’ when you shills yell jump! We’ll look you straight in the eye and make you jump at our every command.
Mr;(excellent human) Tim Rutten you are in my list and thank you for that perfect article…
Thanks Tim for your honesty.
TIm: You have violated the rule of journalism—TELLING THE TRUTH.
Excellent article, Timothy Rutten. It has taken a while, to know, politicians can only be truly politicians… which means that when they make promises to gain our votes – they are ‘politicians’, thus their ‘promises’ are not ‘promises’ – but anything and everything is promised… lies, lies, lies, lies, lies, lies, lies, lies, lies. lies.
True leaders such as a Washington, Jefferson, the Adams, Lincoln, Wilson, Teddy Roosevelt, Truman, were of all the leaders of the USA – of the over 40+ presidents/politicians elected todate – imagine only 1/4th can be recalled as leaders of conscience… leaders to be admired and remembered as fine leaders.
The USA , our nation, needs greatness in our leaderships today… not politicians whose bandying of words have to be deciphered – questioned… understood, etc.
