LOS ANGELES–In the words of Mark Twain–"the human race has one really effective weapon–and that is laughter." On Sunday–November 20–the Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry (ABMDR) presents a group of talented comedians at the World Famous Comedy Store in Los Angeles using laughter as a weapon to raise funds and save lives.
This is the third annual fundraising event at the Comedy Store–a landmark in the world of comedy. It has drawn capacity crowds in previous years and is sure to do the same this year. The line-up features Brian Callen–Ty Barnet–Ara Basil–Steve Byrne–Mick Betancourt–and host Sam Tripoli. These renowned comics hail from such popular shows and films as MadTV–the Tonight Show–Old School–Jimmy Kimmel Live–Bad Santa–the Dave Chappelle Show–the Late Late Show–Beachers Mad House–and Party at the Palms with Jenny McCarthy.
"We have some of the most talented comics from across the country lined up for our annual event. The Comedy Store and the comics have never let us down and they will have great material to bring the audience to tears with laughter," said attorney and ABMDR board member Lara Yeretsian. "Helping save lives while you laugh–there’s no better ticket in town," Yeretsian continued.
"Raising awareness and funds for the donor registry is critical for those in need of a bone marrow transplant. It is the difference between life and death," said Dr. Frieda Jordan–President of ABMDR. "To date–ABMDR has recruited 10,000 donors–received 400 patient requests–identified 300 matches and has been the impetus for 5 successful transplants."
Partners with Glendale Memorial Hospital and Health Center–the Lincy Foundation–Foundation Laboratory–Armenian Health Alliance–Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust–St. Jude Children’s Hospital–and Caitlin Raymond International Registry–ABMDR has offices in Los Angeles–Boston–Yerevan–and Tehran.
The ABMDR was founded in 1999 as an independent–non-governmental–not-for-profit organization–whose mission is to ensure that every ethnic Armenian struck with a life threatening blood-related illness is able to find hope for long-term survival through the identification of a genetically suitable bone marrow match. ABMDR has been recognized–registered–and accredited by the Armenian government as an independent–non-profit–non-governmental organization. In the United States it is registered as a 501(c)(3) organization.
