BEIRUT (Aztag)–Armenia’s in Lebanon celebrated ARF Day–the 113th anniversary of the ARF–on Thursday–December 11–in the Hagop Der Melkonian theater in Bourj Hammoud. The keynote speaker was ARF Bureau member Albert Ajemian. Also present were the Armenian Prelate of Lebanon Bishop Kegham Kacherian–Armenian Catholic Church representative Bishop Vartan Ashkarian–governors of Ainjar–representatives of official and sister organizations–and a large number of community members.
After the national anthems of Lebanon and Armenia were performed–a moment of silence was observed for the memories of all the heroes who perished in advancing the Armenian cause and fighting for justice.
Opening remarks were delivered by Jacques Kouyoumjian–who noted that the ARF was born out of the suffering of the Armenian people–and has always listened to their cries–adding that the present does not differ from the past–and that the ARF–with its 113 year history–remains true to its beliefs–working for a free–independent–and united Armenia.
Speaking on behalf of the ARF Central Committee of the ARF–Hagop Pakradouni said that national history is transient–but ideas remain permanent.
Pakradouni noted ARF’s important role in formulating and reforming government policies in Armenia–as well as in Artsakh and Javakhk–and reminded all of ARF’s position in pursuing the Armenian Case. "Turkey is our enemy–regardless of courtships of individuals and certain elemen’s?and as such–any relationship with the enemy is condemnable."
Speaking about ARF ideology–Keynote speaker Ajemian said–"The ARF is and remains an ideological movement. We have joined and supported the ARF not because it is strong–but because it embodies vital ideas that support national preservation and complete liberation."
Ajemian said that because challenges are so great–proposed solutions–at times–seem unrealistic. "After carrying out a persistent struggle for 113 continuous years–a portion of ARF’s fundamental goals have already been realized–and the party will continue with the same faith–but with renewed enthusiasm and deep conviction–that although negative forces come with the new century–they–however–will also deliver new direction–possibilities–and opportunities to continue our political undertakings," he concluded.
