PASADENA–More than 70 Armenian National Committee friends and supporters gathered at the Hamilton Humidor Wednesday to participate in the Pasadena and Crescenta Valley ANCs’ annual Christmas party and the honoring of State Senator Schiff and long-time activist Vasken Yardemian.
Pasadena ANC member Souzi Zerounian served as the Mistress of Ceremonies at the event–which also attracted more than a dozen local and state dignitaries.
Zerounian in her remarks presented the various activities of the ANC–as well as the activities of its sister organizations–including the Armenian Relief Society–Hamazkayin Cultural and Educational Association–Homenetmen Athletic and Scouting Organization and the Armenian Youth Federation.
Also present were Pasadena City Council member Sid Tyler–Police Chief Bernard Melekian–School Board member Bonnie Armstrong–representatives from Pasadena sister city Glendale and ANCA-Western Region Executive Director Vicken Sonentz Papazian.
Senator Schiff was honored at the event for his continuous efforts on behalf of the Armenian-American community of the region in various fields.
Schiff has been at the forefront–advocating issues such as the protest against the establishment of a Turkish studies chair at UCLA–and condemning the denial of the Armenian Genocide.
Armenian National Committee member Yardemian was also honored. Yardemian is the first Armenian-American on the La Crescenta town council’s nine-member body.
He has also held several positions in local city governmental structures–including commissioner in Pasadena and leadership positions within the ANC.
ANC-Pasadena chairperson Aida Dimijian and Armenian Cultural Foundation of La Crescenta chairperson Bedig Kazandjian presented the honorees with commemorative plaques thanking them for their efforts.
