YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Anyone who deman’s the resignation of the president under the present conditions is opposing his steps to disclose Siradeghian’s crimes–Hrant Markarian–member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Executive Council of Armenia–said in commenting on the motion by member of Parliament David Shahnazarian to launch the procedure of impeachment against the president. He called it "a step to meet the current conjuncture."
Markarian–who was speaking Friday at the Yerevan Press Club–said that the issues revealed by Armenia’s Prosecutor General were nothing new and were being discussed for more than year.
The ARF leader added that such assassinations have a worse impact on the population that other crimes–however–"a crime is a crime–and it would not be prudent to forget all economic-oriented crimes."
Markarian also discussed the upcoming parliamentary elections–and said that his party would cooperate with all political forces who aspire for fair and free elections.]
He added that he would like to see the ARF take part in the elections as a party–stressing that only through the elections would the popularity of the party become evident.
Markarian said that he his hope is for the political maturity of the public.
He said that the people must understand that the next parliament should come to power not based on bribery–but rather on each candidates’ views on important issues facing the Armenian nation. He also opined that the new parliament would be a group of several political forces–expressing hope that criminal elemen’s would not enter the legislature.
In conclusion–Markarian also announced that he would not be seeking a seat in the parliament–since he is not interested and has been a citizen only for one year.
