YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The participants in the international conference titled "Journalists Against Terrorism & Violence" adopted a message to the leaders of the CIS member countries October 26. The message reads:
"We–the participants in the international conference `Journalists Against Terrorism & Violence’–after discussing the mass media situation in the CIS member countries–are expressing our concern over the violations of the rights of journalists in Nagorno-Karabakh–Armenia–Tajikistan–Kyrgyzstan–Georgia as well as in other CIS member countries. We are demanding immediate revision of the illegal judgment passed on the Karabakh journalist Vahram Aghajanian–restoration of the rights of the editor of the Armenian Times newspaper Nikol Pashinian–Bulgarian journalist Tsvetana Paskaleva–Kyrgyz journalist Vadim Nochevkim as well as of the staff of the 10th province weekly which was actually closed down by the Nagorno Karabakh Republic authorities. We are urging the leaders of the CIS member countries to get their countries’ legislations brought to conformity with international law–take measures to prevent acts of violence against mass media representatives."
The message is signed by Chairman of the Human Rights Commission–Constitutional Rights Union Armen Javadian–Head of the Center of X-Journalism Oleg Panfilov–Chairman of the Yerevan Press Club Boris Navasardian–Chairman of the Helsinki Committee of Armenia Avetik Ishkhanian–and representative of the Department of Information and Publications Tigran Rshtuni.
