YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Deputy of the National Assembly–member of the "Kayunutiun" deputy group Suren Avetissian died in a car crash on October 26 at the age of 36–the National Assembly Public Relations Department reported.
Suren Avetissian was born in 1963–in the town of Spitak. In 1980–he entered and in 1984 graduated from the Economic Department of the Yerevan Institute of Public Economy–receiving the qualification of economist. In 1984-86–Avetissian served in the Soviet Army. After demobilization he worked at the Spitak Elevator Constructing Plant as Head of Department and then as Chief of Production of Rigid Constructions. In 1988-92–he was assistant manager at the same enterprise.
In 1992-1996–Avetissian worked as Director General of the "Luis" Armenian-Russian Company.
In November 1996–he was elected Mayor of Spitak–to work in the position up to 1999.
On May 30–1999–Avetissian was elected to the National Assembly and was member of the "Kayunutiun" deputy group.
He was married–with three children.
Suren Avetissian made a big contribution to the rehabilitation of earthquake-damaged Spitak. "Avetissian had but a short record as deputy; he had no time to materialize many of his plans pertaining to legislation. The memory of the skillful leader–honest citizen–faithful husband and father will live on in the hearts of those who knew him," the National Assembly press release runs.
A state commission led by National Assembly Vice-Chairman Ruben Miroyan was assigned to oversee the funeral of Suren Avetissian.
