DEARBORN–Governor John Engler joined the Michigan Armenian community in honoring the people of Armenia and their struggle to regain independence by issuing an executive declaration marking the sixth anniversary of Armenian independence–reported the Armenian National Committee of Michigan.
"The Michigan Armenian community values Governor Engler’s friendship and welcomes his leadership in commemorating the sixth anniversary of Armenia’s independence," said ANC-Michigan Chairman Kirk Kashian.
"As he makes clear in his Declaration–the Governor is aware of the great price the Armenian people have paid for their freedom and fully appreciates the meaning Armenian Americans attach to the establishment of Armenian independence for a second time this century."
Gov. Engler was joined by Michigan Senators Spence Abraham and Carl Levin–who issued statemen’s on the Senate floor marking the sixth anniversary of Armenia’s re-established independence.
