YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The "ArmConsult" business promotion center elaborated a model for the re-operation of the idle industrial plants of Armenia. Executive Director of the "ArmConsult" center–Gagik Makarian–stated that considering the international experience and Armenia’s economic peculiarities–production parks are expected to be established in the country.
According to Makarian–the largest Armenian enterprises that need large investmen’s and global programs can be used as production parks. In particular–under the model large enterprises are to lease their production premises and machine-tools to small companies. As a result–the infrastructure of the enterprises will be re-operated and new services will be formed: computer–broker–consulting–and other services. Production parks can also be formed both in the industrial and in the trade and agricultural industries. The "Petak" fair can be considered an elementary example of a production park in Armenia.
The model for production parks was elaborated by a suggestion made by the Ministry of Industry and Trade–and was first applied to the recently privatized "Arax" plant. Makarian said that the model will be offered to idle factories throughout Armenia. If applied–the model will be adjusted to the needs of particular enterprises. According to Makarian–the discussions of models of production parks with managers of entrepreneur that own the factories are hopeful.
The World Bank is planning to submit a proposal for the establishment of production parks and for business plans on the establishment of business incubators.
