TEHRAN—Armenia’s Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandian told his Iranian counterpart Ali Akbar Salehi that Iran’s balanced position vis-à-vis the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is important and bolsters Iran-Armenia relations.
Nalbandian, who is Iran, met with Salehi to discuss a wide array of issues, including the latest developments on Iran’s nuclear programs. After being briefed by Salehi on the matter, Nalbandian highlighted the progress that was made in that realm, expressing hope it would be reinforced during a scheduled meeting on the matter to be held in Baghdad.
The two leaders also discussed the activities of the Armenian-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission, as well cooperation between the two countries in the fields of transport, education, energy, customs, environmental protection, healthcare, agriculture and culture.
Nalbandian also met with Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The two hailed the continued cooperation between the two countries, discussed the process of implementation of joint economic programs, discussed the projects of construction of the 2nd Armenia-Iran power line, hydroelectric power plants on the Arax River, oil pipeline and Iran-Armenia railway.
While in Iran, Nalbandian also met with the Chairman of Iran’s Parliament, Ali Larijani and Secretary of the Supreme Security Council of Iran, chief negotiator on nuclear programs Said Jalili.
I am really amazed at how Armenia and Armenians manage to maintain such good ties with Iran, Russia, the USA, and EU and the rest of the world (minus the Turks). Armenia and Armenians should pursue a policy of neutrality on the international scene much liked the Swiss and Swedes, with the exception of the Turks and Azeris. 😀
Ahh, we DO have a Foreign Minister, who knew it. He must have gone on a very long vacation.
We will put an end the turkish scums by joining together and work with our regional allies Iran and Russia.
Although we know that being surrounded by hostile Muslim populations has played a role in the massacre of Armenians throughout our history, it is very important that we become friends with Muslims and nurture our relations with them. In this regard I consider our relations with our decidedly religionistic neighbor Iran proof that we harbor no ill-will towards Muslims and are zealous to keep our relationships with Muslims friendly and filial.
