YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The newly emerging "left" and "right" factions in Armenia are artificially created–stated Armenian Revolutionary Federation Executive Council member Hrair Karapetian during a National Accord Alliance press conference Wednesday.
Karapetian warned that since issues of democracy–rule of law and constitutional issues remain unresolved in Armenia–coalitions of political forces cannot exist based in ideological approaches–thus making the concepts of "left" and "right" relative.
Karapetian added that the newly created so-called "left" faction did not have political outlook and expressed that this faction–whose creation was engineered by Levon Ter-Petrosyan–aimed at attacking the National Accord Alliance.
The ARF leader also added that the first phase of the alliance’s activities–discussions and presentations of programs to the public–could be deemed complete–and the time had come for a "clear and concise" articulation of deman’s to the leadership.
"We are prepared for direct dialogue," stated Karapetian–emphasizing the importance of the beliefs and goals of the alliance.
Democratic Party of Armenia chairman Aram Sargsyan told reporters that the alliance evaluated a recent draft of changes in Armenia’s election laws and deemed those measures to be affable.
Nercess Zeynalvandian of the National Self-Determination Union stated that following the passage of the said election law in the National Assembly–the dissolution of the current legislature should be demanded.
If the National Assembly rejects the draft proposal–Zeynalvandian explained–then it would become apparent that the National Assembly did not want to improve political conditions in Armenia.
At its first meetings–the National Accord Alliance called for new parliamentary and presidential elections–a new constitutional referendum and an end to the politically motivated trials.
Sargsian stated that during the alliance’s Friday rally–the date of the pan-Armenia rally would be announced.
