YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenian scientists’ research programs presented at NATO’s scientific-technical forum "Science for Peace" in Portugal were generally praised for their innovative approaches–president of Armenia’s National Academy of Sciences Fadey Sargssian said.
Despite all the difficulties of the transition period–Armenia’s scientists managed to introduce ten programs at the forum which attracted great interest on the part of NATO experts. According to Sargssian–these works are not of military and secret nature. They are mainly related to the sphere of applied research–for instance–the rationale use of water and electricity–seismic researches. As reported by Sargssian–NATO stimulates transformation of those research programs designed for military sphere.
Sargssian noted that NATO Science-Technical Council still shows interest toward scientific research conducted in former USSR states. And it is not accidental that besides NATO experts–representatives of the US–Canada–Eastern Europe–the forum was attended by representatives of CIS and Baltics.
The main achievement of the forum–according to Sargssian–was the discussion of joint scientific work not only within NATO–but also countries-participants of the forum–strengthening of already existing–as well as establishment of new ties.
