LOS ANGELES–More than 1,000 community members gathered at the 26th Annual Homenetmen Navasartian Games Victory Ball at the Universal Hilton on Saturday–July 7–to celebrate the accomplishmen’s of members–athletes and volunteers who over the last several months have put together the largest Armenian community event in the Western Region.
Opening remarks were made by Christine Khanjian on behalf of the evening’s organizing committee. Khanjian introduced Master of Ceremonies Charlie Ghailian–who welcomed the guests and thanked the supporters and sponsors of Homenetmen for their generosity.
Official guests included Western Prelate Bishop Moushegh Mardirossian–ARF Western Central Committee representative Viken Yacoubian–Homenetmen Central Board representatives Jirair Sarkissian and Koko Balian–former Central Board chairman Dr. Misak Arzoumanian–Honorary Presidents of the 26th Games Vatche and Jane Soghomonian–last year’s Honorary President Ashkhen Pilavjian–and 2001 Exemplary Homenetmen Member Jassik Jarrahian.
Speaking on behalf of the Homenetmen Regional Executive was Berge Bedoyan.
Homenetmen Regional Executive Chairman Manuel Marselian recognized Jassik Jarrahian with a plaque in honor of her decades-long service to the organization. Jarrahian also received a gift from Glendale Ararat chapter chairwoman Lilit Baghdassarian. "The Ararat chapter is proud to have Jassik Jarrahian as a member–and is pleased with the Central Executive’s decision to select her as the Exemplary Homenetmen Member this year," said Baghdassarian.
A video presentation documenting the activities of Homenetmen on the West Coast was shown. The video presentation captured the multi-faceted life of Homenetmen in the Western United States–and gave the audience a sense of the monumental task undertaken by the organization–on a mission to strengthen and develop good citizens with national pride–and healthy mind and body.
The evening also featured the traditional passing of the Tricolor Ribbon from last year’s Honorary President Ashkhen Pilvjian to this year’s Honorary Presidents Vatche and Jane Soghomonian of the Central Valley.
Master of Ceremonies Charlie Ghailian concluded by thanking the attendees for their faith in Homenetmen.
Following the official banquet program–a dance was organized for the youth. Hundreds of attendees enjoyed the sounds of the evening’s entertainers–including Vatche and the Dreams–as well as a DJ.
