Prelate Bishop Moushegh Mardirossian received the new Consul General of Armenia to Los Angeles–Valeri Mkrtoumian–at the Western Prelacy headquarters Wednesday December 27. The new consul was presented to Mardirossian by the outgoing consul Armen Melkonian–who will be returning to Armenia. Various issues were discussed including the present conditions in Armenia and the various celebrations planned this year for the 1,700th anniversary of the adoption of Christianity.
Mardirossian praised Melkonian for his efforts at uniting the Los Angeles community and creating a solid relationship between the homeland and the community. He wished Mkrtoumian success in his future endeavors and said he was confident the new consul would continue the remarkable work of the outgoing consul. Bishop Mardirossian presented both Mkrtoumian and Melkonian special gifts. In turn–Armen Melkonian presented the prelate a gift from Karabakh Prime Minister Anoushavan Daniyelian
