YEREVAN (RFE/RL)–Law enforcement and justice ministry officials had little to say about the ongoing investigation into the assassination of Deputy Defense Minister Vahram Khorkhorouni.
The body of a male victim was discovered outside Yerevan and there are suspicions that this could be related to Khorkhorouni’s assassination. Both murder cases are being handled by the highest level investigators. However–the situation remained calm and there were no visible repercussions.
The press office of the General Prosecutor told RFE/RL that it is not possible to rule out or rule in any link between the two incidents. No one has been charged or arrested for these killings and the official response is the same: investigations are continuing.
Local authorities in Armavir where the second body was discovered confirmed that the victim is not a local resident. He has been identified as Armen Arakelian born in 1965 and the owner of a registered private company. There are both gun shot wounds and marks from a knife-like instrument on his body.
