YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"The opening of the new building of the German Embassy in Yerevan turns to a new page in the history of our relations. Today Armenia is viewed as a stable country even in the conditions of a heavy burden of the unsettled Karabakh problem," Director of the Central Department of the German Foreign Ministry Haims Richter said at the opening ceremony late last week.
He pointed out that the German Embassy in Armenia was one of the first to open in the former Soviet countries–which testifies to the fact that Germany attaches much importance to "being duly represented in Armenia." He gave assurances that Germany will assist Armenia as much as possible in developing democracy–market relations and integrating into the international structures.
"We deeply understand many of your problems–since we know similar problems connected with the unification of the Federative Republic of Germany with the German Democratic Republic. We recognize the importance of confidence in our friends," Richter pointed out. Germany wishes to achieve practical progress in regional cooperation and conflict settlement. But such progress requires all parties’ flexibility and willingness to cooperate.
A state reception attended by Armenian Prime Minister Armen Darbinian–government officials–parliament members–representatives of political and public organizations–foreign diplomats–journalists and other invitees–was held on the occasion of opening the new building of the German Embassy in Yerevan.
