YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)– US Ambassador to Armenia Michael Lemmon presented his credentials to President of Armenia–Robert Kocharian on Friday.
Ambassador Lemmon reportedly stressed that the United States is strongly determined to assist Armenia in building a thriving and secure future. The US Government is certain that despite the numerous problems Armenia is currently faced with–the country will be able to overcome its past and existing difficulties.
Kocharian stated that Armenia attaches special importance to relations with the United States. He acknowledged US support to Armenia over the years.
Stressing that the US was interested in the establishment of peace and stability in the region–Ambassador Lemmon stated his country’s willingness to assist Armenia in establishing free market relations and developing democracy in the country–as well as establishing good relations with neighbors.
Later that day–the newly appointed Ambassador met with Armenia’s Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian. During the meeting–the American diplomat referred to the importance of all-round relations with Armenia.
Vardan Oskanian stressed the essential role of the US in Armenia’s socio-economic development–resolving regional conflicts and the Karabakh settlement.
