YEREVAN (Armenpress)–The Yerevan City Hall culture department came to a final decision on the 2002 New Year celebration events.
According to the head of the department Arman Sahakian–the event is filled with numerous activities–and a 26 meters high fir-tree will be set in Yerevan’s Republican Square.
On December 31 night fireworks will be held at the square–concert and discotheque will continue till morning–while January 1-13 concerts for children with Santa Claus and heroes of different tales participating will be organized.
On January 12 night the New Year will be celebrated by the old calendar. One of the old Armenian traditions–the celebration of ‘Tarehats’–will be restored at the initiative of the culture department.
About 3,000 Yerevan citizens will receive bread baked of special dough in which they will find beads or coins.
