PARIS (Armenpress)–"Karabakh is independent from Azerbaijan and will never be subjugated to it," said visiting Karabakh leader Arkady Ghoukasian during an interview with the French Armenian AYB radio station.
Ghoukasian also said he understands the necessity for holding negotiations behind closed doors. "This type of diplomacy is understandable to a certain extent," he said–adding that there were some difficulties concerning Karabakh’s participation in the talks. "But the OSCE Minsk group co-chairs are in constant contact with us–asking our advice and keeping us informed about the pace of the negotiations," he said.
The Karabakh leader said that he could not speak on behalf of Armenian President Robert Kocharian or Azeri President Heydar Aliev. "I cannot say whether they are satisfied with the results of the talks–but we shall be fully satisfied if we reach the goals we have put before ourselves," he said.
According to Ghoukasian–there are certain principles that are regarded sacred by all Karabakhis. "As the president of Karabakh I do not have the right to go beyond these principles," added Ghoukasian.
