BAKU (Armenpress)–The forum of non-governmental organizations in Azerbaijan have launched a wide-spread campaign seeking to repeal Section 907 passed by the USA Congress in 1992–which prohibits the US government from providing direct assistance to Azerbaijani government until the latter lifts the blockade imposed on Armenia.
According to the representatives of the forum–the Section 907 has a negative influence on Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. It actually prevents USA’s attempts to expand humanitarian aid to Azerbaijan.
While discussing this issue in April 2000–the non-governmental organizations’ forum decided to establish an initiative group that would be engaged in seeking to repeal the Section 907. The head of the EKOPROTM non-governmental organization Kamran Mahmudov was elected the head of the initiative group.
