NORTH HILLS–Calif.–The 27th Western Prelacy National Representative Assembly convened Friday at the Ferrahian Armenian school’s North Hills campus Minassian Hall and approved the by-laws for an independent educational structure for the Prelacy-affiliated Armenian schools.
The Assembly was attended by 44 delegates–representatives of the Prelacy Religious and Executive councils–the Board of Regents–as well as principals and directors from Armenian schools and pre-school facilities.
The meeting convened with opening prayers said by Western Prelate Bishop Moushegh Mardirossian who presided over the assembly–following which a blessing and welcoming message from His Holiness Aram I–Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilicia was read.
Jack Kahwejian and Rev. Vazken Atmadjian were elected temporary executive–while Stepan Kabadayan and Vatche Proudian later were elected permanent co-chairs of the meeting. Nerses Dshoyan and Ara Avedikian were elected permanent secretaries to the meeting.
During the second session of the assembly–representatives from each board of trustees presented brief reports on their respective parishes–following which the annual report of the Prelacy Executive Council financial activities was presented. (The Executive and Religious councils’ activity reports were forwarded prior to the assembly).
The Assembly commended both councils on their activities.
On Saturday–the assembly focused its activities on the reading–assessment and amendmen’s to the by-laws of the new educational structure for the Prelacy-affiliated Armenian schools. Following necessary amendmen’s–the by-laws were approved.
A budget for Prelacy activities also was approved and through a unanimous decision–the current auditing and budgeting committee was chosen to continue its activities until the next NRA.
A special session of the NRA–to be convened in the near future–is scheduled to address other agenda items.
The Assembly adjourned with the singing of Cilicia and a prayer by Bishop Mardirossian.
