YEREVAN (Respublica Armenii)–A joint Armenia-US company began in November exploratory oil and gas drilling in Garni. More than 100 people are involved in the search–including experts from Armenia–the US–Great Britain–and several Arab countries. Geophysical investigations of the drill are carried out by British companies Western Atlas and Datalog.
Almost 50 percent of the scheduled operations have been completed–according to the Ministry of Energy. A 12.5 inch wide 1,235 meter drill was made. Experts are now working to widen it to 17.5 inches in diameter.
The work on the territory of Garni is expected to finish in six weeks–then search for gas will continue on the territory of the Armavir province.
