YEREVAN (Azg/RL)–Co-chairmen of the OSCE Minsk Conference arrived in Baku Tuesday.
The visitors carried out negotiations with Azeri President Gaidar Aliyev behind closed doors. Responding to the questions of journalists during the break–Yukalov said that Armenian side accepted the OSCE proposal. Azeri Foreign Minister Hassan Hassanov confirmed the statement–saying that now the project can be implemented.
The Azeri Touran agency reported that resolution is set to be carried out in two stages. First–Armenia’s should withdraw their troops from six regions neighboring with Nagorno-Karabakh.
Then–following the return of refugees and lifting of the communications blockade–two issues will be discussed in parallel: the status of Karabakh and future of Lachin and Shoushi. Up to now–Armenia and Karabakh demanded to first resolve the issue of Karabakh’s status–and only then the withdrawal of forces could be discussed.
Yet–the Armenian Foreign Ministry provided somewhat of a different explanation: Armenia’supported the stage-by-stage form of the resolution from the very beginning of negotiations.
Yet this does not mean that Armenia does not have serious objections in regard with the currently proposed plan–read a statement by the Armenian Foreign Ministry.
Azerbaijan has announced that it would require two weeks for a definitive answer on the latest proposal by the OSCE peace keeping group.
