YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Levon Ter-Petrosyan–met with the co-chairmen of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Minsk group Sunday.
Ter-Petrosyan met Deputy Secretary of State for the US–Strobe Talbott–French representative Jacques Blot and Russian representative Valentin Lozinskiy and the rest of the delegation to discuss the problems associated with the settlement of the Karabakh conflict.
The delegation of the Minsk group left for Karabakh to meet with the Republic’s president–Leonard Petrossian. Prospects for peace in Karabakh were discussed during the meeting.
The co-chairmen of the Minsk Conference said the negotiating process must be hastened.
A document written by the negotiators was presented to the Karabakh side for consideration. According to negotiators–the document may serve as the basis for the continuation of the negotiating process.
Petrossian presented Karabakh’s approach to the solution of the conflict and noted that progress at the negotiation table is possible only if the sides are willing to compromises.
He stressed the importance of a direct dialogue between Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan in order to reach an acceptable proposal.
The meeting was attended by Karabakh Foreign Minister Arkady Ghoukasian and Defense Minister Samvel Babayan.
