YEREVAN (Combined Sources)–OSCE Minks Group Co-Chairman Bernard Fassier’s office reported Thursday that during next week’s visit to the region, the co-chairmen will also be visiting Stepanakert.
Fassier will be joined by his other OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs Yuri Merzlyakov, and Matthew Bryza will begin their visit to the region on January 13 in Baku. On the Jan. 15 the group will go to Yerevan and on Jan. 18 they will travel to Stepanakert.
The sides to the conflict had told the co-chairs that the date of the visit was inopportune, but the co-chairs refused to reschedule the visit saying it will be inopportune for them.
"I am one of those interested in a peaceful resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. A step forward is needed to settle it," said Heikki Talvitie, the former EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus.
The Finnish diplomat praised the activities carried out by the OSCE Minsk Group. "Soonest resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict is essential for regional stability. It’s very hard to foretell the date a peaceful agreement will be signed, since the process is long a complicated. But Armenia and Azerbaijan expert every effort to resolve the conflict," he said, APA reports.
