YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"We discussed numerous issues–included bilateral relations and cooperation–and we are convinced that this will serve as good basis for further development of relations with the Vatican," said Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian on the Armenian program of the Vatican radiostation–regarding his meeting with Vatican Foreign Minister Toran.
During the meeting of the two foreign ministers–Oskanian presented Toran with the current socio-economic and political situation in Armenia–as well as issues of foreign policy and affairs–particularly acknowledging the conflict resolution process of Nagorno-Karabakh. Oskanian assessed that members of the Vatican satisfactorily grasped the message of the Armenian delegation. "I think that–in international forums–specifically in the OSCE–we will have the Vatican’s support in advancing this case," stated Oskanian.
According to Oskanian–Armenia anticipates Italy’s support in Armenia’s membership of the Council of Europe–in furthering of relations with the European Union–and the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. However–Oskanian explained–the main bond between Armenia and Italy is economic relations. "We can benefit the most from Italy’s concise economic development model–which is mostly based on the development of small and medium sized businesses. The model is very appropriate for Armenia–and we must adopt the experiment and introduce it in Armenia," he said.
