YEREVAN (Armenpress)–The Pan-Armenian Youth International Center plans to take about 130 of its most active members on a pilgrimage to Der-Zor–Syria in April 2005.
Der Zor was designated by the government of Young Turks as the destination point of hundreds of thousands of Armenia’s deported from their homes in 1915. Those who survived the death marches were brought to the desert of Der Zor and murdered there.
In 1990–the Armenian Apostolic Church of Syria built a memorial that has become the pilgrimage site for Armenia’s around the world.
The Youth Center has asked Prime Minister Andranik Markarian to help make the pilgrimage possible. From Der Zor–the group plans on traveling to Aleppo to participate in a conference dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Armenian genocide.
The Pan-Armenian Youth International Center foundation was established in 2001 by the Government of Armenia to respond to new challenges faced by today’s Armenian youth. The Center develops and carries out various programs and activities related to national–international–and Armenia-diaspora issues. Its mission is to serve as a bridge between young people living in Armenia and youth all over the world.
