YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The parliamentary delegation of Armenia is continuing its official visit to France. The delegation head Khosrov Haroutiunian visited the financial center of foreign trade on April 1 where a seminar on Armenian-French economic ties attended by businessmen from both countries was held.
The same day–the speaker of the Armenian parliament met with Paris Mayor Jean Tibery. The two discussed possibilities and prospects for cooperation between Yerevan and Paris. Tibery noted the importance of having international recognition of the Genocide of Armenia’s. Both sides appreciated the need for developing qualitatively new relations between the two countries. The meeting also discussed ways to settle regional conflicts as well as issues pertaining to regional cooperation.
Later the same day–the Armenian speaker and his entourage attended the meeting of the French Senate at the Luxembourg Palace. The participants in that meeting warmly greeted the Armenian parliamentarians. A meeting with members of the Senate’s French-Armenian friendship group was held thereafter. Four basic provisions were entered in the minutes as a result of discussions around a wide range of issues. The first provision concerns the meeting of the chairmen of the parliamen’s of Armenia–Georgia and Azerbaijan to be held in Paris under the auspices of French President Jacques Chirac and under the chairmanship of the French Senate Speaker. The second provision concerns Armenian-French economic cooperation and envisages encouragement of French investmen’s in Armenia under the supervision of French senators–access to Armenia for French companies. Also–a French-Armenian University is expected to open in Yerevan. A program of legislative and technological cooperation between the National Assembly of Armenia and the Senate of France is also planned.
Later in the evening Haroutiunian and members of the Armenian delegation held a meeting with representatives of the Armenian community of France.
