YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)– "It is a method of forced policy–when everybody is made understood what may happen to them. Everybody [at the National Assembly] must have some fear in them and obey and to believe that things can change anything in this state is hopeless and impossible," National Assembly member Edward Yegorian said Friday–commenting on his removal from a leadership position within the National Assembly.
He noted that at first it seems that the authorities became stronger–which has nothing to do with security and development of the country and people–because such methods cannot promote any progress. According to him–this is not a personal problem–but another step to strengthen the positions.
As for the reasons for his quitting the ran’s of the Republic faction–he noted that the task of any political party is not to declare slogans–but to establish relevant structures and implement concrete programs. For that–according to him–will–knowledge–intellect or desire to use intellect are needed.
"To my mind–none of our leaders possesses the above-mentioned qualities," Yegorian said. According to the parliamentarian–the leaders’ efforts are mainly aimed at forming general impression abroad. Anyway–he personally does not see any real steps or progress in the matter to form a free economic field–market–competition–democracy for the last two years. When he got convinced that it is not going to be realized–he left the faction.
He commented his running for the position of ANM Chairman as an attempt to help Ter-Petrosyan wake up and get back to the way of democracy. According to him–the policy pursued in the country in recent years led to the fact that under conditions of peace there is not progress in the country’s economy and aggravation of the social state is observed. Yegorian is confident that the Ter-Petrosyan personally bears responsibility for such situation in the Republic.
He said that now it is very interesting for him to listen to other members of the Republic faction saying that he is moving along an erroneous path–while it was he himself who wrote the program of the bloc. He noted that he promoted formation of the faction for it not to become an instrument in hands of Ter-Petrosyan –parliament speaker or anyone else–but sadly enough it is that way.
According to Yegorian–the program contained an idea to contribute to the Republic’s democratic development. The faction distorted those ideas and deviated from the program.
