YEREVAN (Azg)–According to reports by the state-run Armenpress news agency–National Assembly deputies Paruir Hairikian– Nerses Zeynalvandian– and Central Electoral Commission Norair Khanzadian allegedly pursued deputy Aramazd Zakarian Thursday and beat him up using wooden objects–and purportedly threatening to use a gun.
Guards of the National Assembly interfered to prevent the situation from escalating. Zakarian has reportedly gone to the prosecutors office with the intent to press charges.
Questioned about the incident–Paruir Hairikian said he has long planned to speak with Zakarian to find out why he had called him a spy in the press. Together with they accidentally met Zakarian in the National Assembly– and asked whether he plans to publish an apology in the press. Hairikian stressed that he called on the prosecutor’s office in this regard–but had not been successful in initiating an investigation. "I told him he should retract the accusations–since they may have irreversible consequences for me–if they are taken seriously," Hairikian said. "You have sentenced me to death," Hairikian continued as Zakarian refused–and slapped him.
Hairikian said he had a walking stick– as his foot was aching that day–and he used it in the quarrel.
According to reports Hairikian threatened to "destroy" Zakarian if he were to not retract his accusations.
According to sources–Hairikian’s gun–which he regularly carries with him–slipped out and eyewitnesses testified that he reached to retrieve it.
