YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The Russian Federation Federal Security Service (FSS) delegation headed by Nikolay Patrushev–Director of Service–General of the Army–arrived in Armenia on July 23. The delegation arrived with the purpose of holding a conference with the leadership of the Ministry of National Security.
On July 24–Armenian President Robert Kocharian and members of the delegation led by Director of FFS of Russia Gen. Nikolay Patrushev held a meeting wherin prospects of cooperation between the security services of Russia and Armenia were discussed.
As one of the main directions of this cooperation–the sides pointed out struggle against international terrorism–as well as drug trafficking and illicit arms sales. The sides also stressed the importance of a cooperative effort in preventing illegal migration.
According to the Armenian Presidential Press Office–the sides also exchanged views on problems of regional concern–such as issues connected with illegal migration–energy–and nuclear security.
