YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Dr. Rubina Peroomian held a meeting with journalists at the National Press Club Wednesday to discuss problem of cooperation between Armenia and the Diaspora.
Peroomian expressed confidence that a healthy cooperation can resolve all domestic issues. "It is time the relations between the Homeland and the Diaspora took a natural path to development of programs in the political–social–economic–educational–scientific and other spheres after a period of autocracy," she said.
Among national problems Peroomian highlighted the problem of the Armenian Cause–Hai Tahd–starting from Karabakh to Kars–Ardahan–Van and Western Armenia. She saw the need for the recognition of the Genocide–by the nation itself–as a corner-stone in the issue of Hai Tahd. Peroomian stated that the study of the issues of Hai Tahd and the Genocide are more emphasized in schools in Armenia than in Armenian schools in the Diaspora. She stressed the significance of workshops and conferences regarding international recognition of the genocide.
Peroomian pointed to the importance of bringing the lifestyles–mentalities and ideologies of the two parts of the Armenian people closer together in developing Armenia-Diaspora relations. Hailing the change in Armenia’s attitude toward the Diaspora and relations with it–Peroomian said that Armenia and the Diaspora should above all get to know each other.
