LITTLE ARMENIA–Garen Kasparian, a senior at Rose & Alex Pilibos Armenian School in Hollywood, CA, scored a perfect 800 on SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) Math subtest. While this puts Garen in the very exlusive group of the top 1% SAT scorers nationally, Pilibos has had an impressive record on this challenging standardized test for many years. This year, Garen was followed by his classmate Shant Thomassian who scored an impressive 720.
In the last few years, Pilibos has had many similar success stories. Marae Sakuni scored 710 and Saro Kasparian scored 740, both in the math subtests. Pilibos scores for the English Writing subtest have not been far behind the math. This year, Edit Nikoyan of the 2009 graduating class scored a 700 out of 800.
Rose and Alex Pilibos is proud of its students and graduates. Year end results of standardized tests and academic achievement have been continuously impressive, be it the SAT scores or those who were designated as AP Scholars and those admitted to top tier universities. This year, Edit Nikoyan holds the title of AP Scholar with Honor, a title given to students who score 4 and 5 in 3 or more AP tests.
For many years, Pilibos has had the highest acceptance rate to UC system among other schools similarly situated. In 2007-2008, 10 out of 12 applicants to UCLA alone were accepted, and over 90% of all students that applied to all campuses in the UC system were accepted, some with very impressive scholarships.
Acceptances are not enough for our students, we try to bring forth as much scholarships and gran’s for them. It is important for the students to realize that if they follow through with their commitment, they will be rewarded, the Principal commented.
Administration, Counseling and faculty keep the students focused at Pilibos, addressing the important prerequisites that colleges and universities set upon them. Review of student transcripts are done on a yearly basis to make sure the students are on par and will successfully complete the necessary requiremen’s. Rose & Alex Pilibos academic advisors are always abreast of curricular changes and updates, and of their students’ academic progress.
Today, curricular deman’s and university acceptances are more challenging and demanding. Pilibos is a school where students’ overall success, academically as well as socially, is a priority and everyone works hard to pave the road for the students and make the process understandable to them and their parents.
