THE TIDINGS OF CHRISTMAS ARE A SOURCE OF LIGHT
"Let us joyfully celebrate your Holy Birth–you who were revealed for us as light from the light–and filled the universe with your light. We glorify you God of our fathers." (Hymn)
Heartened with new expectations and brighter hopes for the New year–the Glorious Epiphany and Nativity of our Lord once again brings warmth to our hearts and our collective lives.
The tidings of Christmas fills our life with the light of the incarnated God and illuminates us with the rays of a Divine light providing new assurances for our redemption.
The visit of the Newborn King–granted to the world–with his gleaming and guiding star–brightened the hearts of the human life. Just for that reason–not only were the humble and modest shepherds granted to witness the tidings of our Savior and Christ the Lord’s birth – which was a great joy for all these people – but also to noble representatives of the Eastern Wisemen–the Magi–who were led to worship the New King.
Inspired by the worlds of the hymn–with firm faith rejuvenated from many centuries–we joyously celebrate the birth of the "Sun of Justice," who was revealed to us "with a Great and Wonderful Mystery," and with the angels’ song praising God the good news was declared to the world:
"Glory to God in the highest
And on earth Peace,
Good will toward men."
Unfortunately–the world still suffers from not attaining peace.
All of mankind still agonized longing for real peace–justice–and true light.
The humble manger brightened the gloomy world and illuminated the star in the sky. Does it today illuminate the mankind with the same bright and radiant rays?
Death and destruction–terrorism and war have darkened our horizons. The events of September 11–2001 darkened the world for a while. However–today the mystery of the good news of Christmas invites the world to beseech to incarnate Lord to "silence the wars–to stop the attacks of our enemies–and to establish love and justice on earth." (Prayer Book)
With contemplations and expectations for the Year 2002 and Christmas–we congratulate the administration and the people of the United States–and the Armenian nation–wishing and praying that this New Year and the tidings of Christmas bring light to our lives similar to the light which illuminated the whole universe two thousand years ago.
May the Christmas message for light–hope–justice–peace and love immerse itself into the lives of the entire mankind–and particularly may it prevail in the lives of the Armenian people–in Armenia–Artsakh and the Diaspora.
May the Year 2002 and the tidings of Christmas–empowered by the 1700th anniversary message–inspire us to spiritual awakening.
Hence only then–by the hymn-writer’s words–we will celebrate our Incarnate Lord’s Birth–who manifested Himself as the light providing illumination into our lives.
Happy New Year to you all, Christ is born and revealed.
