YALTA (Armenpress)-The Ukrainian Armenian community on Monday hosted a town hall meeting at Yalta’s St. Hripsime Church with Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian and Catholicos Karekin II.
The event, which attracted hundreds of Ukrainian Armenia’s, followed a ceremony commemorating the 650th anniversary of the medieval Holy Cross monastic complex in the Ukrainian province of Crimea.
During his remarks, President Sarkisian discussed the importance of Armenia-Diaspora relations. Underscoring the responsibilities the Republic of Armenia has to its communities abroad, the president sought to reassure those in attendance that they have a role to play in the future of an Armenian homeland.
"We have come to say that you have homeland, which will help you in any issue," the president said during his remarks. "The Republic of Armenia bears a certain responsibility toward the Armenian community."
Armenia needs its Diaspora, Sarkisian said, adding that he hopes the Diaspora looks toward Armenia and sees a homeland, which it has a stake in.
"We assure you that each of you has a place and role in Armenia, you have your home in Armenia," he said.
Sarkisian and the Catholicos were also briefed on the activities of St Hripsime church during their visit to Ukraine’s capital.
